Outcomes
What actually changes in your shop.
How does a validated buyer profile change my close rate?
It removes guesswork. Instead of guessing which words a customer needs to hear, you already know their real fear and their real want. Every homepage, quote page, and follow up email can speak to a real objection instead of a generic one.
How much design time do I save by leading with a buyer profile?
You stop spending hours in back and forth revisions based on opinion. When a client asks for a change, you can point to the buyer’s actual priorities instead of guessing. That time goes into billable strategy work instead.
What do I get to charge for instead of “website design”?
You charge for the research and the strategy the design is built on, not just the pixels. Once a client sees the profile behind their site, they understand why the price includes more than a template.
The work
How a brief actually gets built.
What is the difference between a validated and an inferred claim?
A validated claim traces back to a real source: an interview, a sales call, a review, a support ticket, or observed search behavior. An inferred claim is reasoned from category patterns or adjacent data and is labeled as such, along with the test that would confirm it.
Validated lines are safe to put in an H1 or an ad. Inferred lines are direction, not evidence. See a tagged sample →
How long does a buyer brief take?
Days, not the 10-plus hours of manual labor an agency would spend running it in house. The intake is fixed, the question set is standing, and the output format never changes, so the time goes into analysis instead of setup.
What do you need from my team to start?
One client project and whatever raw material already exists: the current site, sales call recordings or notes, reviews, support threads, and the questions that keep coming up in discovery. You do not run new research.
If nothing exists yet, the brief starts from market and competitor evidence and says so on every line.
What if my client has no customer data at all?
The brief still gets built, with more of it tagged inferred and each inferred claim paired with the test that would validate it. That is often the most useful version, because it gives the client a short list of questions to start asking their own buyers instead of a false sense of certainty.
Do you talk to my clients’ customers directly?
Only if you want us to and the client agrees. Most engagements run on evidence the client already has, because sales calls, reviews, and support threads are full of buyer language nobody has systematically read. Direct interviews are an add-on when the stakes justify them.
Search and AI visibility
Where this sits next to SEO and AI Overviews.
Is this SEO?
No. SEO decides whether a page can be found. A buyer profile decides whether the page deserves to convert once it is found.
They work together: the profile sets the questions a page answers, which is also what makes the page worth citing. But nobody here is auditing your backlinks.
How does buyer research affect visibility in AI search results?
AI answer engines quote pages that answer a specific question clearly in the first line or two. A validated buyer profile tells you which questions real buyers ask and in what words, so the page gets structured around a real question instead of a keyword.
Clear entity naming and answer-first structure are what make a page quotable. The research is what tells you which questions are worth answering in the first place.
Will AI replace this kind of research?
AI is very good at producing a confident persona from nothing, which is the exact failure this service exists to prevent. The value is not in generating claims. It is in tracing each one to a source and labeling the ones that cannot be traced.
Tooling speeds that up. It does not remove the need for it.
Working together
Fit, scope, and what happens next.
We are a small studio. Is this only for larger agencies?
It fits any agency that sells the work personally and wants to charge for strategy, including one and two person studios. The one poor fit is a shop priced by page count, where research reads as cost instead of margin.
Do you work directly with my client, or through me?
Your call. Most agencies keep us behind the scenes and present the brief as their own strategy layer. Others bring us into the walkthrough, because hearing the buyer quoted back by a third party lands harder. Both work.
What does it cost?
Engagements are quoted per project, because the input varies: a client with three years of sales recordings is a different job from a pre-launch brand with nothing. Send the project and you get a number, not a discovery sequence.
Still deciding? Send the project.
The fastest way to know whether this is worth it is to point it at a real client build and look at what comes back.
